Summary

Under the influences of the following factors: faster urban construction, the increase of auto ownership, the extension of roads and more complex traffic systems, the global auto navigation industry rises and develops quickly.

In China, car navigation system has being recognized along with the popularization of private cars. Although its current application is on the low side in China, its huge market potentials have aroused a wide range of interests. 2008 Olympics Games, 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the spread of economical cars and the rise of self-drive tour all will spur the development of this industry strongly.

From perspectives of car incremental market, market ownership and market competition, it's clear that opportunities and challenges co-exist in Chinese in-vehicle navigation market.

Incremental market

In 2005, the sales totalled at 2,787,400 cars. Car priced between 100,000 RMB-300,000 RMB are the most potential market for in-vehicle navigation system, the sales for this price range were as high as 1.5 million cars in 2005.

Market ownership

By the end of 2005, the ownership has reached 33 million cars, among which passenger cars were 12 million units. Thereby, in-vehicle navigation system has a very broad application market, especially for the after-sale installation market.

Market competition

Both domestic and foreign manufacturers have a covetous eye on this huge market. They have been well prepared and are waiting for the moment of market start-up. At present, many domestic manufacturers have launched their own products, while some foreign manufacturers also have made a lot of preparations for product localization.
