Market Definition

The trucking sector consists of freight and passenger transport by road. Freight covers both own-account (where a company transports its own goods using its own trucks) and hire & reward (where a transportation company offers trucking services to customers); owner-operators and larger fleets are included. The value of the freight segment is calculated on the basis of total road freight volume multiplied by average annual price per tonne-km. The passenger segment covers all road passenger transport other than private vehicles; it includes revenues generated from buse, coach, taxi, and similar services. All currency conversions are at constant average annual 2008 exchange rates.

For the purpose of this report the global figure is deemed to comprise of the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
