Hang on a moment though, there’s another segment in the cosmetics industry that’s doing really well, driven, not by well-heeled adults seeking eternal youth, but kids with spending power and a love of premium brands. According to a new report, the U.S. ‘teen’ (age 15-18) and ‘tween’ (age 8-14) grooming products market is expected to yield $8.5 billion by 2012.

Takeda and Abbott: Will Not Feel the Burn Until 2009
As announced in a detailed report into the subject area, US court has ruled that the product patent covering Prevacid in the US is valid and enforceable, leaving Teva unable to launch a generic equivalent until May 2009. Although sales of Prevacid are still expected to decrease due to strong market competition, Takeda will look to maintain its market presence by launching a follow-on product.

General Motors Opens New Studio For Volt - The Electric Concept Car
General Motors Corp. (GM) has announced the opening of a new design studio which will be a dedicated space for their next generation of electric vehicles. The studio contains clay and vinyl models of Volt, which was unveiled earlier this year.
The American automaker describes the Volt on their website as ‘radically different than any on the road today.’ The car has been touted as being able to travel 40 miles without using a single drop of petrol and is a symbol that GM is determined to move towards alternative-fuel vehicles.

Recent Figures show China putting Coal at the heart of its Economic Growth
China’s significance and impact on the world environment was brought sharply into focus through July, when the country’s state-run media released figures that showed that China’s coal production soared 17.9% in year-over-year. The country’s total energy production was up 9.9%.
According to He Youguo’s paper titled “China’s Coal Demand Outlook for 2020 and Analysis of Coal Supply Capacity”, China is the largest coal consumer in the world, its coal consumption accounting for one fourth of that of the world total. He says half of the rise in world coal consumption is contributed by China.

8% of Aussie Families are embracing “Green Power”
As an increasing number of retailers launch green tariffs and green energy is more prominently offered, Australian consumers are rapidly signing up to green power. The country now has amongst the highest penetration of residential customers buying accredited green energy in the world, and the share of households taking a green product is expected to reach double figures by 2009.
A new report shows that take-up is being driven by desire to help the environment and a limited price differential with existing tariffs, with green power just one of an increasingly wide range of environmental measures being adopted by households.

Cardiovascular Drug Blockbusters Under Pressure From Raft of Patent Expiries
A new report shows that growth in the use of cardiovascular drugs has been steady in the last five years at around three percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) and growth is expected to continue at a similar rate, in-line with population growth.
Despite growth in the use of cardiovascular drugs, sales growth is unlikely to match this. Growth in the last five years has been moderate at eight percent CAGR but there is likely to be negligible growth between now and 2016, giving an effective fall of three percent in cardiovascular revenues.

By 2012 the gourmet/premium foods and drinks industry should rise to $96 billion, with the cheese and dairy sector expected to post the highest growth rate at 13%.
A new report shows that connoisseurs craving gourmet, specialty and premium foods and drinks, consumed mass quantities in 2007 valued at $59 billion- a growth of 10.9% over 2006.

China’s Railway Equipment Manufacturing is Set for Explosive Growth
According to the 11th Five-Year Plan, China’s railway industry will enter a dramatically developing period. Railway network construction, located upstream of the railway industry, will get the business opportunities first, including rail-track laying, engineering & machine, bridge bearings.
Similarly, the railway equipment manufacturing industry will boom in a manner commensurate with being located midstream of the railway industry chain.
