China Overtakes ‘Big Three’ in Global Automotive Industry

Jonna DaglidenThe Big Three of four wheels used to relate to the U.S., Germany and Japan. However, not for much longer.

A new report shows that in the past few years, precisely after its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, China has seen a phenomenal growth in its automotive industry. As the country’s economy is growing steadily, a vast consumer base with increasing disposable income has led to a changing lifestyle and rapid development in road infrastructure. This has subsequently led to China becoming a renowned name in the global automobile industry.

Is the Lack of Affordable Advanced Mobile Phones the Reason to why Teens Won’t Buy into the Mobile Phone Market?

Jonna DaglidenA new report shows that the teen market has been the ‘golden child’ for cellular providers in the US. In addition to growing subscribers, teen ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) has been growing higher than that of the overall market. However, pricing pressures and teen cellular saturation are bringing an end to the teen cellular gold rush.

Is ‘Self Check-Out’ the Answer to Meeting Growing Customer Demands?

Jonna DaglidenDo you recognise yourself paying for your food shopping in a ’self check out’, paying for travel through airport check-in kiosks, and renting movies from self-service DVD rental kiosks instead of traditional retail spaces?

Well in that case your part of the new developments where snapshots are being developed at photo kiosks, motorists are refuelling their vehicles at pay-at-pump gas stations and where restaurant diners can order from touch-screens at fast-food chains and use hand-held, pay-at-table devices at sit-down restaurants.

Is Being Obese Your Own Fault or is Society to Blame?

Jonna DaglidenTory leader, David Cameron, claimed yesterday that obese people only have themselves to blame. He argued that social problems were often the the consequence of individuals’ choices. Meanwhile, UK obesity statistics say around 10% of UK children are now diagnosed as overweight, and between 2 and 3 % as obese. Doctors are struggling to see what can be done to shift an entire generation’s eating habits. So, if obesity is not a disease, would it help to ban marketing of food towards kids?

Will Cheap Fuel Force UK Motorists to Head South?

Jonna DaglidenFancy an excuse for a holiday? Well, if so, this is your chance. A recent survey from the UK Post Office Services says motorists will find the cheapest fuel in Spain and Switzerland. Switzerland is the only one out of 12 European destinations where unleaded fuel cost less than £1 a litre, and driving in Spain is the best value for diesel and hire car drivers.

Swedes Affected by the Credit Crunch

jonna_dagliden.jpgDespite raised salaries and lower taxes, Swedes won’t spend as much money this summer, new research from the largest Scandinavian bank Nordea says.

The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter writes that the global economy is to blame: “The increasing food prices, fuel prices and property interests have affected Swedes’ budgets. Subsequently you cut down on your holidays abroad.”

Is the New Apple iPhone Launch Part of Profound Changes in the Mobile Market?

jonna_dagliden.jpgWith news of the cheaper iPhone being launched this summer, is it part of the mobile industry having to undergo profound changes? Or did O2, which sells the phone in the UK, and T-Mobile, the German distributor, significantly overestimate the number of first version iPhones that would sell in Europe just because of the ‘hype’?

Is Tap Water the New Bottled Water?

jonna_dagliden.jpgBeing Swedish I have never really understood the bottled water industry (if you order water in Sweden expect tap water.) Anyway, I just cannot see the purpose of paying for water, not least in a restaurant where they charge you double the price (actually 1000 times the price of tap water!) But it seems as if ordering tap water in the UK is a sign of being cheap; so many times have I experienced the the waiter’s raised eyebrows…

Counterfeit Drugs may be Prescribed By your Doctor

jonna_dagliden.jpgWe could accept that if we would purchase medicines on the Internet, they could be fake. However, according to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) even prescribed medicines could be harmful counterfeits.

A new report shows that last year’s breach of the pharmaceutical supply chain in the UK has put the issue of parallel trade at the top of the agenda for the European Commission.

Despite Critique Brands Cash in on Hip-Hop Culture

jonna_dagliden.jpgDespite the notion of hip-hop culture being a bad influence on young people today, a new report shows that it has become part of mainstream American consumer culture.

Although being related to controversy, significant sales can be attributed to products prominently featured in lyrics, spontaneously embraced by the hip-hop world and products that appear to be genuinely used by an artist prior to the relationship.
