iPhone Demand Sets Brazilian Passion for High Tech Alight

moaFrom 26th September this year, Brazilians no longer need to illegally unlock iPhones bought on a trip to New York or Miami, as the iPhone 3G was finally made available in the South American country. In partnership with Apple, Brazil’s largest mobile phone provider Vivo Participacoes SA began selling the iPhone in a bid to drive sales and boost revenue.

Chinese M&A Flourishes as Financial Slowdown Hits West

moaWith the depths of the financial crisis increasing in the West, rumours have surfaced of Chinese companies arriving to take large shares of Western enterprises at knock down prices. It is the banks that appear most attractive to Chinese investors, with Morgan Stanley recently believed to be in talks with China International Trust and Investment Company, CITIC. It is no secret that the Federal Reserve in the US has been encouraging China to invest in US banks in order to alleviate the risk of the financial meltdown that looms over the West’s banking system. Despite the latest flurry of news on the subject, China’s interest in foreign mergers & acquisitions (M&A) is not something brand new.

Australian Motor Production Faces Tough Ride Ahead

moaThe Australian motor manufacturing industry has recently faced a series of tough challenges including General Motors’ subsidiary Holden’s announcement that it would cut 600 jobs from its Adelaide-based plant, as well as the Japanese automotive company Mitsubishi’s decision to close its local production facility altogether. While Japan’s Bridgestone confirmed its commitment to maintaining its Australian operations, it did declare that it will be raising product prices in order to adapt to the rising costs of raw materials.

The Road to 4G Proves a Close Race for Technology Competitors

moaAs consumers were just getting used to the 3rd Generation wireless (3G), the 4th Generation (4G) is making great strides as the next evolutionary stage that will supersede a technology that is only just now becoming a common sight in the mobile market. Although there is no current definition of what the 4G standard actually includes, there are a number of technologies in the marketplace that claim to be the next evolutionary step up from 3G. The two major players vying for the largest slice of the pre-4G pie are LTE (Long Term Evolution) and WiMAX and both have their fair share of support. A recent report assessing the future market opportunities for the evolving 4G wireless platforms presents UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) LTE as the clear early favourite in 4G wireless.
