How a little WINE lets Google top Microsoft at their own game

Recently, there have been an awful lot of people speculating about Google’s new product: Google Chrome OS. This has been a product which has been talked about in hushed circles for some time and, like everything else Google does, there has been very little said from the company on the subject until the recent press release. They’ve slated a release for it, according to their blog, for 2010 and, if my suspicions are correct, this will mean the end of Microsoft and I would like to explain why.

Enterprise Architecture must take a leadership role in IT strategy and service delivery

Attempts to align IT strategy with an abstract business vision or strategy are doomed to failure according to a new report. It says that in order to improve competitiveness, organisations must urgently address the growing dislocation between the business requirements and IT deliverables. This, it says, is directly impacting the enterprise’s ability to make quick, accurate decisions and is causing slow implementation of the IT strategy. The gap between IT capability and business needs cannot be allowed to continue. Instead, the adoption of an end-to-end architectural approach and the development of an enterprise model can help with IT strategy planning and execution. Documents and Records Management market braced for more upheaval

Having already weathered a significant degree of consolidation in the past three years, the Documents and Records Management (DRM) market is braced for further and more radical change according to a new report. DRM is emerging as one of the fastest growing markets in the enterprise technology space. After a spate of consolidation in the last three to four years, the DRM market is now in the midst of post-consolidation blues. Most leading vendors sport multiple platforms and product lines within their DRM portfolios and are yet to come to terms with unified product strategies. The technology landscape is largely flat, with little to differentiate between major vendors in terms of product capabilities. As much as this paints a picture of transformation well in progress, shifting enterprise priorities are forcing another wave of change – quite possibly a second round of acquisitions and entry of a newer breed of players into the market. Internet: Forecast says Fresh IPv4 Address Space will be Impossible to Obtain around 2010

Paul BuddeIn the years to 2010, the Internet enters its fourth decade and is reaching two important limits which are inherent in the current architecture. Firstly, the exhaustion of previously unused IPv4 address space, and secondly a set of inter-related scaling problems in the BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) routing system which drive up the cost of the core routers used by every ISP and large end-user network – such as those of corporations and universities.

Chinese Manufacturing Faces Decline as Olympics Comes to an End

With the Beijing 2008 Olympics over, increased attention has been given to the after-effects that the event will have on the Chinese economy and, in particular, on the rapidly growing manufacturing sector. While other host countries such as South Korea (Seoul), Spain (Barcelona) and Australia (Sydney) saw a slowdown in economic growth after hosting the Olympics, the impact on Beijing and China is less clear cut due to the country’s status as an emerging economic superpower. China’s manufacturing industry will continue to slow as the business outlook within the manufacturing industry darkens.
