Governments take to CRM solutions to enhance constituent relations

Driven by the need to improve its management of constituent relationships, a new report predicts that government spending on customer relationship management (CRM) technology solutions in the US, UK, Germany and France will grow from $2.9 billion in 2008 to $4.4 billion in 2013.

In today’s commercially-oriented world, it has become a trend among public sector agencies to treat constituents as customers who expect top levels of service.The operating environment for public sector agencies is characterized by the need to ‘do more with less’. As governments strive to provide more personalized public services, they are looking to CRM solutions, which can help align service delivery with constituent needs and address numerous pain points. CRM Solutions on Brink of Widespread Adoption Across the Higher Education Market

Higher education institutions are turning to customer relationship management (CRM) technology solutions to differentiate themselves in a bid to compete more aggressively with one another to recruit and retain the “right” students. The report,‘CRM in the Higher Education Market’ by independent market analysts Datamonitor, predicts IT revenue from CRM solutions in the higher education markets of the US, UK, Germany, France and Australia will grow from $184.9 million in 2007 to $324.5 million in 2012. This growth will be driven both by the purchase of new solutions and the expansion of existing installations.

Open Source Software Set to Change the Face of the Education Industry

A number of education institutions around the globe are looking towards open source software (OSS) as a means to gain more control over their solutions. A new report gives insight into how OSS is becoming more prominent internationally and goes on to note that if the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project, aimed at children in the developing world, proves successful it could have a large impact upon the education industry and OSS in turn.
