This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #<A href=

"/getdoc.jsp?containerId=J8300103">J8300103</A>, presents the results of IDC's survey on the Japan SMB market, our analyses of the results, and our forecasts for the market from 2008 through 2012. "Until 2007, the small and medium business (SMB) IT spending rapidly increased in the Japan market. However since 2H07, a shadow was cast on the market due to deteriorating business performance. We predict that the growth rate will rapidly decrease in the future. Nevertheless, as long as SMBs remain active in IT spending, the Japan SMB market will continue to expand even as its growth rate decreases. While certified tax accountants/certified public accountants (CPAs) and financial institutions wield a strong influence over SMBs, particularly those with 99 or fewer employees, the influence of IT vendors remains small. Thus, it is important for IT vendors to look into how they can provide solutions that meet SMBs' needs. To do so, it is necessary for them to look toward collaborations beyond the boundaries of the IT industry," says Hitoshi Ichimura, research analyst, IT Spending Research, IDC Japan.
