Summary
In January 2007, Romania and Bulgaria were formally admitted into the EU, which is already having profound economic and social impacts on these two countries. By joining the EU, Romania and Bulgaria have effectively committed themselves to the creation and maintenance of open and transparent business environments. While there is much work to be done in these areas in both countries, the benefits are already paying off in the form of increased interest by international vendors. Red tape and software piracy will have to be reduced, as well as additional improvements made to infrastructure and education systems, none of which can be realized without continued political commitment. As the two countries gain exposure to new markets, employees in both countries are gaining exposure to new career opportunities.
