Summary
This IDC study provides an in-depth analysis of the 100 largest outsourcing deals signed in, or covering, Western Europe during 2007. It ranks these contracts in terms of total contract value, and analysis is conducted on a range of variables including lead vendor, vertical market, aggregate contract value, run rate, and country of signing.
This study is the perfect source for readers keen to understand how the European outsourcing market developed during 2007 and where it is going in 2008 - particularly IT professionals, outsourcers and other service providers, large end users, and the investor community.
The total aggregate value of the top 100 European outsourcing deals in 2007 reached the highest level ever recorded by IDC in six years, reaching $41.6 billion, a decrease of 8% compared to 2006, but a 3% increase on 2005.
The composition of Europe's largest outsourcing deals continues to change in 2007. Winning Europe's largest deals in the future will be all about positioning and collaborating. Vendors must decide where they want play, and where their key strengths lie, and then create strong partnership ecosystems to bring together the right mix of capabilities to meet individual client needs.
Continental Europe is becoming the outsourcing opportunity hotbed for 2008 and 2009. Financial services, government, and manufacturing dominated the top 100 in terms of aggregate contract values.
"The total aggregate value of the top 100 European outsourcing deals in 2007 reached $41.6 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8% over 2006," said Jennifer Thomson, research manager, IDC European Services and Software. "This decline can in part be explained by that fact that outsourcing is increasingly viewed as business as usual in many companies, and European organizations now readily evaluate different sourcing strategies. In addition the market faces new realities, the shift to multisourcing and increased competition and commoditization. Winning Europe's largest deals requires a collaborative attitude, and partnerships count. Clients take a more holistic view of service providers and of these providers' relationships to each other, as well as assessing vendors by traditional metrics. This will favor those vendors good at partnering."
