Summary

Introduction

This report contains a wide range of data and analysis, providing insight into the trends affecting personal injury claims. It examines the implications of a number of developments that have occurred in the market recently. These include an evaluation of the impact of the new regulatory body, and the latest thinking from the Ministry of Justice on personal injury litigation reform.

Scope

  • The latest personal injury claims data and market research, including information on accident and disease claims
  • An understanding of the major claims management intermediaries and their advertising strategies
  • Insight into changes in claims management regulation and the latest proposals for personal injury litigation reform
  • Forecast scenarios for claims numbers and costs, based on primary research and in-house expertise

Highlights

The number of personal injury accident claims continued to increase in 200708 by nearly 5%. The majority of accident claims are motor related, and it was motor claims that drove the increase in the overall increase in accident claims.
The overall spending on marketing legal services to the public declined significantly in 2007, after having risen in 2006. The reduction from 2006 was solely due to smaller firms cutting back on their outlays after having increased substantially in 2006.
The strong growth of DAS was fuelled by its acquisition of Amicus Legal which increased premium income, especially with new ATE products targeted at smaller legal firms.
