Summary
Fukuda Denshi develops, manufactures and markets a range of medical equipment centring on cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The company's principal products include electrocardiograms (ECGs), ultrasound imaging equipment and patient monitoring systems. In addition to its own products, Fukuda imports and sells medical equipment to the Japanese market. This includes pacemakers, defibrillators, heart catheters and other devices and equipment produced by companies such as St Jude Medical, Philips Medical Systems and Volcano Corporation. Fukuda also offers a variety of rental equipment in Japan, including oxygen enrichers, oxygen tanks and other oxygen therapy equipment, sleep apnoea devices, polygraphs and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)-based respirators.
Fukuda was founded in 1935 as Fukuda Medical Electronics Co Ltd and changed its name to Fukuda Denshi Co Ltd in 1969.
As of 31st March 2008, the two largest shareholders of Fukuda Denshi were Steel Partners Japan Strategic Fund (Offshore) and Atomic Sangyo Co Ltd, with 14.1% and 12.9% stakes, respectively.
