Garmin Navigates into New Territory

This IDC Insight discusses and analyzes Garmin's January 30 announcement that it will launch the nviphone, a navigation-enabled mobile phone, in 3Q08. PND vendors have been filled with a combination of exhilaration and angst as they head into a market that has quickly become commoditized. Within the past few years, the PND market has grown dramatically, and as each holiday season passes, PNDs have become the hot"to buy"item online and in brick-and-mortar retailers. As a result, PND vendors have been looking at new opportunities to grow their revenue and Garmin has strategically merged navigation with the mobile phone market.
