This study examines the U.S. digital copier controller market by configuration (external, embedded, and single-board architecture) and type (monchrome and color). IDC's findings for the U.S. digital copier controller market include the following:

External controllers will show a slight growth over the forecast period as declines in the monochrome market and the lower-speed color segments are offset by strong double-digit growth in the 31?44ppm and 45ppm+ color segments. Embedded controllers will show a significant decline from 2005 to 2009 as the transition to single-board controllers siphons away embedded controller market share. Embedded monochrome controllers will decline in all speed segments, and embedded color controllers will decline in lower-speed segments. Embedded controllers will find growth only in the higher-speed color segments. Single-board controllers have surpassed embedded controllers for the lead in market share of units shipped and will continue to take market share from embedded controllers throughout the forecast period. By 2009, single-board controllers will account for more than 70% of the entire digital copier controller market.
