Summary

This IDC study examines the U.S. printer market by leading vendors in individual technology, sub-technology, and speed segments. It analyzes vendor market shares and factors leading to vendor performances in 2008. The study discusses the market in 2008 by shipments, value of shipments in U.S. dollars, and average selling value (ASV) in U.S. dollars in the United States.

"The overall printer market will continue to decline in the near term. Despite this anticipated contraction, opportunities in color laser continue to exist. Dynamics of the color laser printer market will continue to develop in the short and long terms. Both home and office end users are adopting color laser devices, not just because of the falling hardware costs, but also because of the declining aftermarket costs. Total cost of ownership for a color laser printer will continue to be the vendor's focus in order to attract new end users and drive page volume," said Akia Ramsay, IDC's U.S. research analyst for Hardcopy Peripherals.
