Kiosk Industry Sector Report

This all-new report examines the current and future status of retail kiosks; the fast-growing sector of the kiosk marketplace. Seventeen charts are included, based on the results of an extensive worldwide survey of retailers who have deployed kiosks. They cover many issues, including the cost of a retail kiosk worldwide and in all four world regions, the average cost per unit, the average number of customers per day and the leading peripherals used on retail kiosks. The report includes 83 photographs of the kiosks evaluated in the Case Study section.

Leading industry trends are discussed, including the growing popularity of outdoor kiosks, digital photography units that allow digital camera owners to obtain instant prints of their pictures or produce a photo book and the use of kiosks as Line Busters to reduce wait times and long lines. Many popular retail kiosks are evaluated in the Case Studies section of the report. They include the Redbox DVD rental kiosks, Showroom Technology's instant credit application units at Belfort Furniture, Ikea's product information kiosks in Barcelona and Subway's outdoor drive-up ordering unit.

The Case Studies are measured against Summit's Kiosk Evaluation Template, which provides an overview of each kiosk project and establishes a common set of metrics against which each kiosk is assessed. It includes descriptions of the locations within the store, the enclosure, signage, attract loop, user interface, peripherals, and any special features that make this kiosk stand out. Each Case Study includes at least three photographs of the enclosure and software interface, along with a detailed-and often brutally honest-evaluation of the retail kiosk, including both positive and negative features.
