This IDC study is an update on the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ hard disk drive (HDD) market for the year 2007. It gives an overview of the HDD market in terms of total shipments as well as breakdowns that explain the major trends in the APEJ HDD market in 2007. By 2012, IDC expects the revenue from the APEJ HDD market to more than double from US$15.33 billion to US$33.42 billion, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.2% for the 2007 - 2012 period. The powerhouses of Asia/Pacific, China, and India will remain key drivers of HDD growth.

"Even with the invasion of solid state drives (SSDs) and other flash-based storage, HDDs will rally on in the consumer electronics (CE) segment, due to technological innovations that give the HDDs the price and capacity advantages over the SSDs in the short term. However, it is the personal storage and portable PC segments that will see stellar growth rates over the next couple of years," says Anjali Joseph, associate market analyst, Personal Systems, IDC Asia/Pacific.
