Summary

This document contains IDC's actual 2005 to 2008 LAN switch results and presents the latest forecast from 2009 through 2013 for Western European LAN switch port shipments and revenue. Forecasts are provided by technology for fast Ethernet, gigabit Ethernet, and 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), by open systems interconnection (OSI) layer for Layers 2, 3, and 4-7, and by form factor for modular, fixed-managed, and fixed-unmanaged LAN switch port shipments and revenue for the Western European market. This document comes with a pivot table.

"The Western European Ethernet switch market is feeling the effects of the sagging economy and grew mildly in revenue by 3% and port shipments by 5% in 2008 compared with last year. However, during the forecast period, IDC expects the Ethernet switch market to increase in port shipments at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.7%, from 80.5 million ports in 2008 to 87.4 million ports in 2013. Revenue will increase at a CAGR of 2.2%, from $6.3 billion in 2008 to $7.1 billion in 2013," said Sylvia Wnsche, research analyst, European Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, IDC.
