Summary

This IDC study provides the updated worldwide forecast for adoption of home networks, forecasting the number of households with home networks and breaking out home networks by application type, including PC home networks and multimedia home networks. This study also includes forecasts of unit shipments of wireless home routers in each region, as well as the growth of the installed base of wireless home networks, broken down by wireless protocol.

"The increasingly dire economic crisis will hurt the worldwide home networking market on multiple levels, overriding many of the accelerators to the market that would otherwise prevail and heightening the inhibitors that already existed. However, consumers will increasingly look to more fully exploit their home networking assets, opening opportunities for multimedia networking applications and devices," said Jonathan Gaw, research manager of IDC's Connected Home program.
