Summary

This IDC study examines the China IT security market for the 20082012 period, with vendor revenue and market growth forecasts. In the first half of 2008, the size of China's IT security market stood at US$439.0 million, of which, the security appliance accounted for the largest share of 44.9%, followed by the security software with 29.4% share and security services with 25.7%.

"In order to avoid any possible impact from the Beijing Olympics in the third quarter of 2008, some mainstream vendors moved up some of their projects to the second quarter. This led to betterthanexpected revenues for the first half of 2008. The first half of 2008 saw a dramatic drop in the security incidents designed to cause disruption. On the one hand, the destructive malicious codes were more concealed; on the other hand, the malicious codes designed to steal or control increased significantly. The consumers and IT managers had to deal with the ever more security threats that came, among other things, from the vulnerabilities of the thirdparty software, antivirus software hijacking, phishing sites, and adware," says Jeffery Dong, research manager, IT Security Market Research, IDC China.

"In 1H08, the mainstream venders were seen making new moves in the unified threat management (UTM) appliance and intrusion prevention appliance markets. While ensuring their shares in the traditional security market, they put more resources into these two markets," he adds.
