The WLAN market grew by 27% to $1.68B, driven by demand for connected device and wireless connectivity The 802.11 b/g standard dominated in terms of unit shipment in 2007, and the WLAN technology is finding applications in segments beyond notebook PC and networking equipment like gaming, mobile phones, and personal media players.

The need for connectivity and connected devices continues to drive this market, and we expect the growth to continue as more application and services add to the value proposition of the technology,"explains Ajit Deosthali, IDC research manager, Short Range Wireless Semiconductors.
