Summary

This IDC Forecast Update provides a high-level summary of IDC's latest forecast for HPC (technical computing) server spending through 2012. The forecast was revised in light of the September 2008 financial crisis and the global economic downturn and predicts a significant reduction from IDC's May 2008 HPC server forecast for the overall HPC market and for each of the four IDC HPC competitive segments (supercomputers, divisional servers, departmental servers, and workgroup servers).

IDC plans to watch market conditions more closely than usual and revise our HPC forecasts as economic and market conditions evolve to provide clients with an up-to-date view of the HPC market and where it is heading. We plan to update our HPC forecasts on a quarterly basis until the economic situation stabilizes.
