The Japan HPC market grew 5% in 2004 from the previous year to reach 53.935 billion Yen. IDC forecasts that the market size will shrink, however, to 42.759 billion Yen in 2009. Masamichi Karasawa, senior market analyst, Server Research, IDC Japan, says, "Vendors that sell large-scale systems should concentrate on selected application domains when making investments. Vendors that sell small-scale systems, on the other hand, should adopt the strategy of providing system packages targeted at specific applications."
