This study, which is a translation of the Japanese report (IDC #J6010106), analyzes the major server product trends in the Japan server market in 2005 by industry and by application type as well as by company size and presents shipment data analyses. It also provides an analysis of users' server investment trends. Based on the analysis, it provides market forecasts for the leading Japan server products between 2006 and 2010 by industry and by application type.

With regard to users' server investments in 2005, the ratio of companies that said their investments would stay the same as in the previous year increased to surpass 50%. However, more companies said their investments in 2005 increased and their planned investments in 2006 would also increase. Masamichi Karasawa, senior market analyst, Server Research, IDC Japan, says, "Majority of the users intend to maintain their current investment levels. With the expansion of the economy, however, there will be even more server users. Vendors should, therefore, find such users in order to increase their server sales."
