This study, which is a translation of the Japanese-language report IDC #<A href="/getdoc.jsp?containerId=J8010107">J8010107</A>, analyzes the Japan server market trends in 2007 by industry and company size, and presents the server investment trends by product. It also analyzes users' server investment trends. Based on these analyses, this study presents the Japan server market forecasts from 2008 to 2012 by industry.

In a user survey conducted by IDC, respondents were asked about the changes in their server investments in 2007. The ratio of users who chose "increased" dropped from the previous year while the ratio of users who chose "unchanged" or "decreased" rose. "User companies decreased their server investments in 2007 as the economic climate became worse," says Masamichi Karasawa, senior market analyst, Servers, IDC Japan.
