Summary

This IDC update discusses the last high-performance computing (HPC) workshop held in conjunction with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) conference that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 14, 2008, and was entitled

"HPC in Oil and Gas: Technical Directions and Operational Issues." The meeting facilitator was Keith Gray from BP. The SEG HPC workshops, held three times a year, explore precompetitive technology trends and operational requirements in HPC of interest to the worldwide oil and gas industry. The meetings include a combination of vendor talks in which they present their existing capabilities and plans for addressing industry requirements and topical panel discussions among industry and vendor experts and the attendees.
