Summary

Please note that this copy is an update of the previous version published in July 2005 so as to differentiate analysis and market dynamics between Enterprises and Carriers as users of Managed Services in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, region.

In the past couple of years, there has been growing eagerness among enterprises and carriers in the Asia/Pacific region (excluding Japan), or APEJ, to take the route of managed services for their ICT infrastructure management needs. As the business argument for managed services becomes increasingly compelling, many of the factors that are driving enterprises and carriers to adopt this route have also become quite distinct.

In response to these divergent demands, Managed Services Providers (MSPs) have adopted different strategies and revenue models to accommodate the varying and unique demands of enterprises and carriers. As such, IDC believes that the dynamics driving both these segments are uniquely different and thus should be treated separately.

In this program, IDC will examine managed services:

Provided to Enterprises and Carriers. Enterprises are further segmented by vertical (e.g., financial services, manufacturing, transportation). Provided by IT vendors (ITSPs), network equipment providers (NEPs) and telecom operators (telcos).

Hence, this program looks at carriers/telecos from both a User and a Provider perspective. When referring to a User, the term Carrier will be used. When referring to a Provider, the term Telco will be used.
