Summary

At the quarterly meeting of the EVUA, held in Dublin last month, fixed telecoms service providers and network vendors set out their current propositions in ICT managed services for the enterprise. IT directors gave their views on current and planned managed ICT. It was clear to us that ICT is not a myth, but it is not a reality either. It is increasingly a reality in telco terms - it is certainly more of a reality than in 2001, when Pierre Danon set out an ICT vision for BT. It is just not the reality he expected. End-to-end ICT has been slower to develop than expected; there have been some stumbles along the way, and there may be others yet. One reason is that the strategy was wrong in 2001, when telcos presented ICT as a challenge to systems integrators. Looking ahead to 2012-2015, we see a very different, more co-operative ICT landscape from the head-to-head positioning of seven years ago.
