Summary

This IDC study examines the results of a survey of more than 400 U.S. IT and line-of-business (LOB) executives at businesses with 1,000 or more employees about their preferences, experiences, and buying intentions regarding IT and business services and vendors. IDC fielded the 2009 Services Spending Intentions Survey in February 2009. The survey reveals the latest trends on the direction of spending for external services, which business areas will receive IT investment in 2009, assumptions affecting decision making on purchases, and the most important vendor attributes considered by organizations when purchasing external services.

"Spending on external services in 2009 is projected to decrease for almost half of all respondents' organizations for IT and business services," says Gard Little, research manager, Worldwide Services. "Likewise, over 60% of respondents who plan to purchase services in 2009 indicated price competitiveness was the most important vendor attribute, which was a change from our previous surveys."
