Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Application Development and Deployment Software Market Highlights, January?June 2007

This IDC Update highlights the announcements and other significant activities that took place in the application development (AD) and deployment market in 1H07. This study is a synopsis of the key events that shaped the AD and deployment market in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region. Some of the more noteworthy highlights include:

• There is increasing convergence among various software markets through both internal development and acquisitions.
• Oracle's acquisition of Hyperion marks an increasing convergence in the financial performance strategy management (FPSM) and business intelligence (BI) tools market in the APEJ region and may give rise to an increasing number of acquisitions by other vendors in the future.
• A few vendors intensified their focus on the midmarket business segment in the region through products offerings targeted at the midmarket and/or through expanding partnerships.
• The release of various development tools with added functionalities may be an attempt by vendors to appeal to developers to use their platform over others.
• A few vendors opened centers of excellence to provide additional resources and support to customers, which maybe viewed as a statement to underline the vendors' commitment to enhancing its products and services and increasing its value proposition.
