Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Application Development and Deployment Software Market Highlights, July-December 2008

This IDC update highlights announcements and other significant activities that took place in the application development and deployment (AD&D) market from July to December 2008 (2H08). This study is a summary of key events that shaped the AD&D market in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ region.

Some noteworthy highlights are as follows:

• Global vendors opened up development and service centers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region and in countries like India to take advantage of cost benefits. These centers were strategically positioned to make the most of local technical skills and to collaborate with engineering universities and institutes in the region.
• Vendors are engaged in the development of new and existing relationships with partners to better serve customers. There is a need to help customers design, plan, and execute and then later consolidate, transform, and manage complex IT infrastructure.
• In order to meet global demand across various industries, companies are coming together to provide business intelligence (BI) and analytics solutions. These will assist in decision-making and reporting, as well as in analytic-driven decisions.
• In 2H08, there were adoptions of analytical solutions in addition to optimization and monitoring tools in the region. Some organizations even outsourced or entered into contracts for services with these types of vendors. Many financial institutions also embraced analytics solutions.
• The year 2008 saw the Olympics, a momentous event with a worldwide following, as well as the rapid collapse and subsequent bailout of the global banking system. The ensuing economic turmoil created a radically different context for global economic growth. From September 2008 through November 2008, the global economic outlook changed drastically, affecting all markets, including AD&D.
