Summary

This IDC study presents a forecast for the worldwide and U.S. application management (AM) services market for the period 2009-2013. While discrete AO services spending reached an estimated $34.5 billion in 2008, a slowdown is forecast across the regions, beginning in 2009. At a global level, IDC estimates that AO services will slow to 6.4% growth in 2009, down from previous forecasts of 8%. A rather slow steady upward trending in the forecast will begin in 2010.

According to Rona Shuchat, director of Application Outsourcing, "IDC expects that the AO pipeline activity will favor smaller deals during this recessionary period. Clients will welcome shorter-term, quick-embedded ROI projects with very defined completion schedules. Greater conservatism will dominate AO strategies. Renegotiation toward lower rate structures will influence contract renewal."
