Summary

This IDC study examines the revenue performance of the deployment-related middleware portion of public vendor revenue over the first nine months of 2007 and also spot-checks the performance of key private vendors.

In 2006, application deployment software was the fastest-growing secondary software market tracked by IDC. Based on the growth rate and other factors, we accelerated our forecast for the five years ended 2011. Because of several trends that could result in depressed growth in 2007, we initiated a research process to check momentum in the market to determine whether our forecast was still on target.

"There is no official consensus on whether we are in or will enter into a recession, and performance to date does not support this. However, in 2008, middleware vendors should take into account signs in the market that there will be some sort of downturn,"according to Maureen Fleming, program director, Business Process Integration and Deployment Software."This year's market performance is largely set by budgets that were completed in 2006. Next year's budgets for IT spending were largely set in a market of increasingly negative IT buyer sentiment."
