This IDC study provides a comprehensive analysis of the 21 markets and six secondary markets (rollup markets) that together compose the worldwide application development and deployment (AD&D) software market. The AD&D software market experienced 11.3% growth in 2006, attaining revenue of $51.2 billion. Our overall forecast for the AD&D market is for revenue to increase from $51.2 billion in 2006 to $80.0 billion in 2011. Although the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) associated with this forecast is 9.3%, growth for 2007 will remain good at 9.8% but decline slowly though 2009 as a consequence of shrinking IT budgets and macroeconomic concerns. The AD&D market will briefly stabilize in 2010 but weaken in 2011 as a result of slowly declining database revenue due to market maturity and the collapse of the application deployment software revenue due to market saturation and commoditization.
