Summary

This IDC update identifies and discusses the top 10 trends that IDC believes will have a material impact on the application development and deployment (AD&D) markets during 2009 and the first half of 2010. These trends speak of key events occurring in information management and data integration software, application development software (ADS), business process management (BPM) and middleware, application life-cycle management (ALM), enterprise portals and workspaces, and service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web services. The overall catalysts for these trends are also discussed, as are their implications on vendors and markets. A key step in defining our top 10 predictions for 2009 is to evaluate the potential financial impact that each prediction will have on the AD&D markets. For this reason, a number of the topics that drive our 2009 predictions were also behind our 2007 predictions and are likely to be involved in our 2010 predictions.
