Summary

HDTV stepped into its booming period in the year of 2003; currently, about 700 hours and 40 HD programs are played in the world every week. Besides, the global HDTV household subscribers outnumbered 15.5 million at the end of 2005, with the industrial market scale of USD 42.1 billion. Up to now, 90% of America's TV stations have began to manufacture HD programs; and Japan's HD news and sports programs were comprehensively started in the year of 2006.

In 2006, China's digital TV industry made great progress. 25 cities have completed the digitalization of cable television, and the integrative transition of 21 cities was implemented in 2006.

According to the statistics from the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV, the amount of China's digital TV users increased to 12.9 million at the end of 2006 from the 4.39 million at the end of 2005, including 4.5 million of pay digital TV subscribers. It's estimated that China's digital TV subscribers may reach 70 million in 2010.
