Summary
The tourism sector has staged an impressive comeback in 2007 after a slow start to the year. According to the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), there were 402,209 stay-over visitors for the January to July 2007 period, marking an 18% y-o-y rise. Concurrently, cruise ship arrivals increased by more than 46000 (up 15.1% y-o-y) during the same period.
High levels of investment (at an estimated US$1.5bn during the first three quarters of 2007) in the sector should ensure that tourism remains a cornerstone of the economy over the forecast period.
