Summary

There has been continued growth in the year 2005. Global wind capacity reached 59 G MW by the end of 2005 and is continuing to grow. Wind power is now a mainstream energy resource, the fastest growing form of electricity generation in the world. However, several countries now have an operational record based on data recorded on a large scale over several years and serious issues are emerging. At least one country has declared a moratorium on wind power and some major operators are reassessing their options. This report examines these issues in detail and highlights the problems.
