Aurora Energy (Aurora) is a Tasmanian Government-owned electricity and natural gas distribution and retail company. It primarily operates in Australia. Aurora operates in the following components of the energy value chain: wholesale energy, utilities networks, and utilities retail / wholesale. Aurora recorded revenues of AUD805.9 million (approximately $603 million) during the fiscal year ended June 2007, an increase of 9.1% over fiscal 2006. The operating profit was AUD75.8 million (approximately $57 million),an increase of 25.5% over 2006. The net profit was AUD32.5 million (approx $24 million), an increase of 45.1% over 2006. Aurora's Tasmanian distribution system consists of 15,358 kilometers of overhead high voltage lines, 7,350 kilometers of overhead low voltage lines, and 1,753 kilometers of high voltage and low voltage underground cables. For fiscal 2007, the company recorded total electricity sales of 10,484 million kilowatt-hours (KWh).
