Detroit Edison, a subsidiary, owns generating plants and facilities in the state of Michigan. The subsidiary's generating capacity amounted to 11,113 megawatts (MW) during the fiscal year ended December 2006. The fuel mix of this generating capacity being 71.8% fossil, 10% nuclear, 9.9% oil or gas, and 8.3% generated through hydroelectric sources

The company sold some of its generating assets to Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) in March 2007. The sale was is line with DTE's strategy to monetize some of its non-utility assets
