It is estimated that the Russian Shtokman gas condensate field has a reserves of 134.12tcf. Production is expected to start by 2015 while the export from this field.
Lithuania's government has fears for the security of its gas supply following an agreement between Gazprom, E.ON and BASF to build a North European pipeline bypassing the Baltic States.
Latvian consumers have traditionally enjoyed the lowest gas prices in the EU. Latvijas Gaze retains a virtual monopoly on the import, transmission, and distribution of gas.
Demand growth in Slovakia has been much weaker than in other Eastern European markets. In the decade to 2005, total demand grew by an average of 2.6% per annum.
The Hungarian government is considering increasing gas prices by 5 to 10% during 2008 to overcome increased wholesale prices levied by Gazprom.
Bulgargaz and Italy's Enel have undertaken a study of the feasibility of building a pipeline linking Bulgaria and Italy via Macedonia and Albania.
