Summary

Green gas

Higher demand levels are reflective of gas representing a green alternative to fuels such as coal. Ironically, natural gas use in the United States is dominated by industrial users and electricity generation, which together account for almost 60% of consumption. This means that longer-term trends in gas usage are heavily dependent on levels of economic activity, while shifts in gas prices and climatic conditions play important roles in determining short-term movements. This industry comprises: establishments primarily engaged in operating gas distribution systems (e.g., mains, meters); establishments known as gas marketers that buy gas from the well and sell it to a distribution system; establishments known as gas brokers or agents that arrange the sale of gas over gas distribution systems operated by others; and establishments primarily engaged in transmitting and distributing gas to final consumers. This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
