Summary
Sales of organic meat products are slowing in Scandinavia after observing growth rates in excess of 20% per annum since the late 1990s. This new report by Organic Monitor reveals that organic meat sales rose by 9.2% to EUR 298 million in 2002.
Organic farmland accounts for 9.4% of total farmland in the Scandinavia region, with over half of the organically managed land in Sweden. The largest level of organic meat production is in Denmark however and it comprises over a half of Scandinavian organic meat volumes. The Danish organic meat products market is maturing and this is causing the leading companies to step up export activities with organic meat being sold as far a field as United States and Japan.
