Summary
The US civil aircraft market is dominated by Boeing and Airbus. Their combined share is about 90% of the worldwide aircraft manufacturing industry. Apart from the two, other aircraft companies like Bombardier and Embraer are also looking forward to the opportunities in the niche sectors of the market such as business jets and smaller capacity commercial jets. The civil aircraft industry in the US showed signs of recovery in 2004-05 after the slowdown witnessed during 2001-03. The industry has been severely impacted by terrorist attacks, the SARS epidemic, competition from low-cost carriers and rising fuel prices. Aircraft shipments in 2002 and 2003 declined by more than 17% and 21%, respectively.
This report analyzes the civil aircraft manufacturing industry in the US, taking into perspective the recovery of the market after a prolonged slowdown.
