The Russian market of equipment for commercial swine production was characterized by stable rates of development in 2006-2008. The market growth in the periods under study was at the level of 5% a year.

The research has revealed that the import of equipment for commercial swine production prevails over domestic manufacture and makes about 90%. In the 1990s, home-made agricultural machine-building stopped making equipment for swine production, currently there are no strategically important technical developments for new swine-producing technologies, except local experimental developments at some scientific and research institutes of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Due to a large amount of players, the market of stock-raising equipment is characterized by severe competition among manufacturers, predominantly international ones.

Experts predicted that in 2009-2010 the market of equipment for commercial swine production would develop at the level of year 2008. However the global financial crisis that affected the Russian economy in the 4th quarter of 2008 has significantly corrected these predictions.

The crisis has resulted either in the reduction or complete suspension of lending for stock-raising farms, including commercial swine production complex, which has led to the decreased volumes of equipment consumption and finally to the reduction in the volumes of domestic manufacture. According to the experts, further development of the sector will depend on how soon the Russian economy recovers from the crisis and overcomes its circumstances and also on the measures RF government will take to support and stimulate the development of the country's agro-industrial complex.
