This industry is characterized by its large number of small-scale, geographically dispersed establishments. Competition on a regional basis is intense, and only the largest players compete nationally. The industry is expected to emerge from a deep cyclical trough (exacerbated by the subprime and financial crises of 2008) after 2009, boosted by ongoing reconstruction work in hurricane-damaged areas.
