Summary

For decades, the U.S. has relied on coal-fired electric-generating plants as the foundation of its central power system. Indeed, more than half the electricity generated in the U.S. today comes from burning coal. Coal is a generic term for a great number of mixtures of often large and complex organic compounds, usually also containing metals and other contaminants. Burning coal generates a lot of emissions. Because of these emissions, coal has received a lot of criticism.

With deregulation of the utility market and the continual increase in the nation's energy requirements, the need for cost-effective and environmentally compliant technologies also increases.

This BCC research report offers a comprehensive picture of trends in the current U.S. air pollution control technologies for coal-fi red power plants industry, and makes market projections over a 5-year period, from 2008 to the end of 2013. It covers the four most regulated pollutant groups of sulfer oxides, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and other hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).

The report analyzes the government regulatory environment that shapes changes in the industry. Technological issues including challenges and recent advancements are presented and discussed in detail. Profi les of major companies in the U.S. also are included.

The scope of this report is broad and includes:

  • Descriptions of the most common pollution control methods including scrubbers, flue gas desulfurization (FGD), post combustion controls, electrostatic precipitators and baghouses The current U.S. market status for air pollution control technologies for coal-fi red power plants, with trends and forecasts for growth through 2013
  • Detailed discussion of industry structure and competitive analysis with focus on electric power generation and pollution control
  • Public perceptions of air pollution control issues including current and pending legislation
  • Company profiles.

Why you should buy this report:

  • To identify the business opportunities that will arise over the next 5 years for technologies to retrofit existing plants, repower facilities and construct new plants
  • To understand the level of eff ectiveness of existing control technologies, current and pending legislation, the status of deregulation, and current regulatory issues
  • To develop business plans to control air pollution from coal-based power plants
  • To maintain a competitive position in the air pollution control marketplace.
