Summary
The "World Brazil - Trends in Demand and Supply" is the Fourth compendium from YarnsandFibers presenting the demand and supply trends in manmade fiber industry.
In this Report we have assesses the impact of the expiry of the MFA and ATC and the scenario post-WTO in global manmade fibre/filament industry and natural fibres, particularly cotton, and how each country prepared and positioned itself in the global market. The analysis assesses the positions of fi-bres/filaments industry and their producers and consumers as events unfolded. Like in case of MFA, the period under consideration is pre-1995, for ATC it is 1995 to 2004 and post-WTO it is 2005 to 2007.
The purpose of this compendium is to serve as a basic information infrastructure for textile companies and to all those who are related to fibres and yarns industry. The compendium will also serve as a ready to use reference and the presentation help easy and quick consumption of the information.
Brazil produces about 400,000 tons of manmade fibre/filament and 1.6 million tons of cotton a year. In 2007 it accounted for just 1% of World's manmade fibre production and 6% of cotton supplies. Its major manmade textile is polyester, both filament and staple. It also has important share in viscose staple fibre production.
Globally, Brazil is the fifth largest producer of cotton and seventh largest in viscose staple fibre production. It is also among the top 10 consumers of textile fibre consumers, exporters and importers.
In consumption, Brazil ranks sixth in cotton consumption, eighth in viscose staple fibre, ninth in po-lyester filament and tenth in acrylic fibre and nylon consumption. It is a major importer of polyester fi-lament ranking third largest in the World.
During the ATC period (1995-2004) production in Brazil was impressive particularly in polyester. Over-all manmade fibre production increased at the rate of 10% per annum, with polyester filament pro-duction growth at 8% per annum and polyester staple at 5% per annum. During this period, cotton production grew at an annual rate of 9%. Post-WTO both production and consumption growth rate almost slowed down to less than 1% per annum.
Brazil consumes about 1 million tons of cotton annually. Its growth in cotton consumption has been steady both during the ATC period as well in post-WTO period.
