Summary

This is BSG's inaugural report on exhibition venues in Asia. The report features detailed tables organised by country outlining each venue's location, size, year of establishment, number of halls as well as planned expansions through 2009.

China dominates the region home to 83 of the 155 venues in Asia- or over 53% of the total. Japan and India both have 12 venues. Korea is the only other country with 10 or more venues. (See Table 1 for details.)

In terms of total gross square metres, China offers 3,489,943 m2 which accounts for 67% of the region's available space. The next largest market, Japan (350,606 m2), is one tenth the size of China. The only other markets with more than 200,000 m2 are India and Thailand. (See Table 1 for details.)

Seven of Asia's ten largest venues are in China. The Pazhou Complex at the Chinese Export Commodities Fair Ground features 338,000 m2 of exhibition space and it is more double the second largest venue, the Liuhua Complex also at the Chinese Export Commodities Fair Ground. Thailand's IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre is 137,000 m2. The other two top ten venues outside of China are the Singapore Expo and the Tokyo Big Sight. (See Table 3 for details.)

Overall, the Asian market measured in square meters has grown by 17% if the 2007 figures are compared with the expected space available in 2009. During that same period, Vietnam has grown the fastest (112%) jumping from 15,900 m2 to nearly 34,000 m2. Singapore grew by 66%, Korea by 31% and Hong Kong by 15%. The largest market, China grew by 20% adding almost 600,000 m2. (See Table 2 for details.)
