Summary
This IDC study provides an overview of the IT spending trends in the entertainment and media sector, comprising the radio, television, music, multiplex, film, print media, animation, and retail entertainment segments. It also provides insights into important industry dynamics and opportunities, emerging trends and business challenges and issues, and the role that IT plays in exploiting opportunities and meeting challenges. It also provides insights into componentwise IT spending patterns for major product categories in 2006 as well as forecasts up to 2011.
"The overall entertainment and media sector's IT spending reached US$214.7 million in 2006, which is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% throughout the forecast period to reach US$378.8 million by 2011. The major contribution to the entertainment and media sector IT market will come from hardware, which is expected to increase at a CAGR of 15.4% from US$70.5 million in 2006 to US$144.1 million by 2011. However, the major growth drivers in the sector will be packaged software and services, which are expected to increase at CAGRs of 20.1% and 19.9%, respectively, throughout the forecast period. The packaged software market is expected to increase from US$32.3 million in 2006 to US$80.7 million by 2011. The service market is expected to increase from US$27.5 million in 2006 to US$68 million by 2011. With the huge expansions planned in the sector and increased corporatization in India, all the major IT product and service markets such as for PCs, networking equipment such as IP PBXs and WLANs, servers, software, and services are expected to maintain healthy growth rates throughout the forecast period. The key solutions players are targeting (for convergence, physical to digitized format conversion, content management, animation, and online presence enhancement) include business intelligence (BI), knowledge management, customer informatics, automation, networking and integration, storage and security solutions, and virtualization,"says Arpan Gupta, analyst, Vertical Research, IDC India.
